Wolf Who Rules finds himself besieged from all sides in this sequel to Tinker.
Thoughts
This one isn't all from Tinker's PoV; I'm not sure whether that's good or bad. Though I do like the Wolf-Who-Rules PoV bits.
Unfortunately, it couldn't keep my interest; perhaps I'll try again some other time.
Second Thoughts
The second time I tried, this held my interest so much better that I can hardly understand why it didn't the first time. Perhaps it was because this time I could go straight from re-reading the first book, into reading the second, and that I could read it straight through. Perhaps part of it was that I knew ahead of time that it wasn't all from Tinker's perspective, so that didn't throw me.
Whatever the case, this was really good. It takes the situation at the end of the first book, and a whole lot of unforeseen consequences come crawling out of the woodwork. Strange dreams, crooked paths, culture clashes, unexpected histories, lies and politics, malice and compassion, trust and promises. The world-building continues to be interesting, as we find out more about elf culture and of magic and strange creatures. The thread binding everything together is Tinker, as she has to cope even more with being thrown in the deep end, and has some hard growing to do.
