I am glad that I love them; I'd hate to think that some psych-tech made me love them! Because they are sweet, dear, wonderful, lovable people. All of them. As long as I don't have to see them very often.
Thoughts
I got this from Fictionwise; a short story from MZB I hadn't read before, probably because it's not a Darkover story.
This is straight SF; we follow the day of the controller of a Vortex station; a very isolated posting which needs people who can cope with the loneliness of it. And as the story goes on, it gets more and more disquieting, as questions are raised about the other people on the station with her. I won't say what the answer is, of course, because that would be a spoiler, but it's well done.
