Chicken Square ToyPattern by Fleur van Eijk. Make a chicken from a square. Super easy and fun to do. The first step is to knit or crochet a square, the beak and comb are crocheted on.
This chicken can be made with any yarn and in every size. If you make a larger chicken, you may want to add some stitches to the beak and comb, or add an extra row.
(One could also do something similar using a circle as a base rather than a square.)2025-02-15 12:23:58 -

German twisted cast-on - KnittingHow to do the German twisted cast-on (in slow-motion) + easy alternative and purlwise method A step-by-step tutorial on the German twisted cast on. Creates a super stretchy edge perfect for socks and hats. The German twisted cast on, also known as Old Norwegian Cast On, creates a super stretchy edge. It's a variation of the standard longtail cast-on and works in a similar way. But because you twist stitches as you cast them on, you get a stretchier edge. It's a bit more difficult to knit that's why I included a couple of slow-motion repeats of me doing the German twisted cast on. But i will also show you a super easy alternative. You can also do a single cast on and knit across one row. It will create the exact same results as the German twisted cast on but might be a bit easier to knit - especially as you don't need a tail and can never run out of yarn. I also included a way to do the German twisted can on purlwise in case you want to knit ribbing.2025-02-13 14:00:39

Dropped Stitch ScrunchInstructions for working this stitch: Cast on a multiple of 3 stitches, plus 2. Rows 1, 3, and 5 (WS): K2, P1, K2, repeat between s to end of row Rows 2 and 4: P2, K1, P2, repeat between s to end of row Row 6: P2, allow next stitch (a knit) to drop off the left needle, and unravel it for 4 rows, so that there are 4 "ladder rungs" above it. Put your right needle into that stitch from front to back, and knit through that stitch. After you complete the stitch, you'll see that all of the "ladder rungs" are also caught up in the stitch, creating the scrunch, P2, repeat between *s to end of row. Bind-off after Row 6.2025-02-08 00:45:58

Smocking StitchDecorative stitch found in many beautiful stitch patterns. This video shows how to do the "action row" of this stitch, which is then combined with other stitches to make the full pattern. It is often used with 2x2 ribbing, but it can be used with other stitch patterns too. A similar stitch with the same name is done by moving stitches onto a cable needle and wrapping the yarn around them; this version creates a similar effect by pulling a loop through the knitting 5-6 stitches further down the needle and knitting it together with the current stitch - no need for a cable needle.2025-02-08 00:00:37

Smocked Rib StitchIn this video I show you how to work the Smocked Rib stitch, an interesting add-on to 2x2 rib. Important note - this stitch can be substituted in a pattern that calls for 2x2 rib, but because the smocking stitch stabilizes the stretch of the rib, I don't recommend it for areas that require a lot of stretch (like the cuffs of socks or the brim of a cap). Instructions for working this stitch: CO multiple of 8, plus 10 Smocking technique - slip next 6 stitches to DPN or cable needle and hold in front of work, wrap working yarn twice around these isolated stitches, then k2, P2, K2 stitches from DPN. Working this stitch in-the-round: Because the smocking is over six stitches and alternates columns of rib, this stitch really doesn't work very well in-the-round. You can alter the pattern and work the smocking technique around fewer stitches at the beginning/end of the round, but you will be left with a very marked difference in appearance between the beginning/end of the round and the rest of the work.2025-02-07 23:31:42

Twist 3 StitchA lovely technique worked over three stitches that resembles a cable stitch. This only shows one row, but I'm assuming it's a two row-repeat with the second row being a standard wrong-side row where you knit the knits and purl the purls.2025-01-28 11:50:51
