Summary: On the first day of Advanced Phonology class, Nyota Uhura is one of the only students willing to look Spock in the eye.

This is a subtle, understated, evocative telling of the build-up of the relationship between Uhura and Spock at the Starfleet Academy. So much is said without words, starting from Uhura's unflinching way of looking Spock in the eye when they first meet. They are both very much in character; I love the way that Spock is so very precise and logical even when doing something unexpected.
